Lavenham

Lavenham is considered to be the finest and most complete surviving medieval town in England. It is a town of timbered houses with scarcely a vertical or horizontal line to be found.
The timbers studded closely together for decorative rather than structural requirement,  indicate the enormous wealth of the 15th. Century. Such extravagance was paid for by the woollen cloth industry of which Lavenham was a leading centre.
This renowned and picturesque Suffolk village also houses a testament to the much more recent past. The Island House was built in 1973 and received a commendation in the West Suffolk County awards to Architects and builders. From the front there are views of the village's half timbered houses while at the back the house looks over the wooded garden and countryside.
The Lavenham Brook runs through the gardens.
