Vampirella Video |
| The item we're all waiting for is a video or film about Vampirella, and this version by Showtime is the only one that's been produced so far. The question many fans are asking is .. is it any good? | ||

If you're looking for classic comic book material then you may be disappointed (as often happens when a comic book character is transferred to movies). However, having recently seen a video of the film (acquired via the internet as I live in the UK where it has still to be aired to my knowledge) I was pleasantly surprised. Reviews had made me fear the worst, so perhaps I wasn't expecting too much - but I quite liked it. It isn't up to Aliens standard (but then what is?) but it was reasonable TV fare, and I'll watch it again. |

Our heroine (played by the delicious Talisa Soto) hasn't quite got Vampi's ferocity, but she looks good in her costume (adapted from the ideal apparently to allow Soto to actually move around without 'falling out' of her costume). Her main enemy, Vlad Tepes (played with gusto by Roger Daltrey) is suitably evil and her lover Adam tries hard to be a hero but doesn't quite succeed. The film rattles along at a decent pace, the story is no less fantastic than many science fiction TV movies, and I felt there was more than a passing reference to Vampirella as she really is in the comics. The film is available on video in the US, but difficult to obtain in the UK. Versions appear occasionally on eBay if you want to bid for it. |
