Battle armor

When Harris bought the rights to Vampirella they decided to change her character and also her costume. She became fiercer, wilder, and sometimes (in the early days) more dressed.

Her costume developed long gloves and boots, and she took to wearing a waist-length 'bomber' jacket (see below right). She was a child of her time, fiercely independent and determined to make a life for herself free of the need for Adam and others.

It was during this time that a comics' convention was broken. Normally other characters in comic stories seem unable to notice the slightly weird outfit that superheroes and heroines are wearing, especially in the case of sparsely-dressed women who should be more careful. Yet a few times in the early Harris comics other characters comment on her clothes (or rather lack of them).  It was not to last long, for in later stories as her costume reduced in size so the ability to notice this seemed to disappear.
