They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I suppose Vampirella should be pleased that some people want to copy her. I'm not so sure, especially as some of the copies I have found so far are anything but flattering - but then that's life I suppose.

Lorelei

This black and white horror comic released in the summer of 2002 is a great homage to Warren's Vampirella magazine.

Steve Roman (who created Lorelei) has captured the spirit of the black and white Warren's, but especially his female star.  Even the Contents Page looks like a page from a Warren magazine - and wonder of wonders he has got Ernie Colon as artist on one of the stories.

Skin Thirteen #1

Of the comics on this page this one has the least Vampirella, but the parody is (in my opinion) the best.

The comic is really a parody on Gen13, but one page contains a parody of an advertisement for Vampirella, that is wickedly funny. That apart, the story of the rest of the comic is mildly amusing, but not exactly mind-stretching.

Interestingly, the Vampi advert suggests that no-one reads Vampirella for story content, simply to see female skin. I disagree.

Vampornrella #1

Depending on your point of view you'll find this comic sad, pathetic, disgusting or humorous. The story is a direct lift from the Warren origin with our heroine arriving from her home planet in a rocket to suck the bodily fluids from the men of Earth. She meets Pundragon who persuades her to zap bad guys with him, but she ends up lopping his head off so she can fly off in search of new victims. Yawn.

Vampornrella is a straightforward bit of soft porn that we would be better off without (in my opinion).  All rather pointless and sad.

Avengelyne #1 and #2

A 2-issue mini-series by Maximum Press in 1996, these comics parody every single 'bad girl' comic around.  Avengeblade is the superheroine  who systematically zaps every other superheroine in comicdom.  This includes the subtly named Trampirella, the parody of our Vampirella.

The plot, while initially amusing, fizzles out in the second comic as Avengeblade takes on the teen teams and comic creators themselves. The series started as an indictment of comics themselves, and as such began to take itself a little too seriously as it developed, ultimately losing its edge.  A shame, as it was a good idea.

Kid Death and Fluffy Halloween Special

The best thing of this comic is the cover - which is the only parody of Vampi anyway.  A rather stumpy illustration of Kid Death dressed up as Vampi (drawn by Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti) stares out at us in a 'I dare you' stance - but we are never told why.

The story (such as it is) is weak and stupid, and this comic would only really interest you if you like lots of scratchily drawn people (if they are female their breasts are impossibly large) using foul language.

Or perhaps I'm missing something .....
