Adam van Helsing is Vampirella's true love, the only man she has been faithful to right up to the present (despite a few other men who have captured her heart for a short time). Adam is a descendant of the famous Professor Abraham van Helsing who fought Dracula in the original book by Bram Stoker. Adam's father, Conrad, is convinced Vampirella is simply another vampire but Adam sees her for what she truly is, an alien from a dying planet (or so we thought at the time). Adam first appears in Warren's Vampirella #8 when Vampirella first gets involved with the Cult of Chaos, and his most recent appearance was in Vampirella Monthly #16 when he helped Vampirella and Lorelei save Drakulon (now known to be a part of Hell) from the Black Sun. However his appearance in the epilogue to Blood Lust in the hardcover versions lets us know both he and Vampirella have many years to go yet. |
In the Warren books Vampirella and Adam share many adventures until Adam eventually leaves Vampirella for Pantha (Vampirella #89) because Vampirella states she can never love Adam as much as she did Tristan (her lover back on Drakulon). He discovers life with Pantha is as dangerous as life with Vampirella - both of them seem to attract weird and wicked demons, monsters and men. However, Panth admits she can never give him children and Adam returns to Vampirella, although their relationship is now somewhat strained. |

| Time passes and Vampirella disappears, leaving Adam to take up a political career and become senator. He dedicates his life to fighting vampires, which is just as well as Vampirella returns (Morning in America) to help him fight off Ethan Shroud, the worst vampire of them all. As we all know they are successful, and Vampirella begins life with new feelings towards him. | ![]() |

But all is not to be as rosy as Adam might hope, as Vampirella is still plagued by the knowledge her destiny is yet to be revealed to her. Once again they part, but this time it is Vampirella who makes the choice to go. In his attempt to strengthen himself to fight the demons without Vampirella, Adam takes the drug Hyde-25 (in Vengeance of Vampirella #9) and is transformed into Bad Jack - the darker side of his personality. |
Now Adam is a formidable ally to Vampirella in her fight against the demons and vampires, but his personality (and his appearance) have changed considerably. He is truly a mad, reckless fighter against evil, and he joins Vampirella as she fights for survival of Earth in the Garden of Eden against the children of Lilith, Madek and Magdalene. All is in vain. Despite his added strength and ferocity, when he comes up against Nyx (in Vengeance of Vampirella #25) she breaks his neck, killing him and sending him (if she did but know) to Hell - or rather the part of Hell known as Drakulon. |

On Drakulon Adam is fulfilling his real destiny, to lead the armies of Drakulon when necessary (as when Nyx and Lady Death threaten Hell). It would appear he is also the son of God, or so he thinks. During his earthly existence (and before he met Vampirella) he murdered someone and now he realises he must atone for this by fulfilling his task on Drakulon forever. And, like Vampirella, he thinks he is immortal. |

After Blood Lust Adam and Vampirella meet occasionally, as in World's End when Vampirella basically is the unwitting tool that destroys creation (but then she restores it) and in the gorgeous epilogue to Blood Lust that those who bought the hardback collection will know. |
The epilogue describes a moment in the future when Vampirella is once again returned to Drakulon because she has been killed again. She tells Adam that each time she dies she will be resurrected, but in the meantime she has a short while with Adam once again. They tell each other of what has happened since they last met, and share a few precious moments. As far as we can see Adam is the same Adam he always was. He behaves as if it is only moments since they last met. And yet, in the epilogue to Blood Lust, as he and Vampirella walk hand in hand towards the window, we see that his arm and hand are simply bone .... |
