SHEFFIELD TIME MACHINE
What is it?
The Sheffield Time Machine is an interactive CD-Rom which
allows the user to visit the city of Sheffield in the last years of the 19th
century and the early years of the 20th.
Using images, maps, text and other printed materials from
the extensive collections in Sheffield's Local Studies Library, it allows users
to explore Sheffield at their own pace and to discover what life was like in the
city.
The full program covers the city centre, from the Wicker
Arches in the north to Moorfoot in the south, and from Barker's Pool in the west
to the Midland Station in the east.
The program is entirely mouse driven - no keyboard is
needed.
Images and text from the program can be printed out.
The CD-Rom contains over 500 images from the more than
60,000 pictures in the collection of the Local Studies Library. It is the result
of two years of planning, research and programming by the staff of Sheffield's
Local Studies Library.
The Sheffield Time Machine has been produced by Sheffield
Libraries, Archives & Information.
