Hide and Sleek is a retail outlet which caters almost exclusively for the
transgendered community. We also provide a made-to-measure service.
Hide and Sleek is run by a real girl, Loraine.
Loraine says "I have been in business for many years making leather
clothes to measure. However, in 1996 I started a very small shop for cross-dressers in
what used to be the office of my workrooms. It quickly became clear that this was a
welcome and much needed outlet, giving guys an opportunity to browse and buy in comfort
and for many this would be the first time they had ever acknowledged and discussed that
part of their life with anyone. I feel very privileged knowing that just by listening and
talking with customers, they leave my shop more optimistic and feel a little better about
themselves than when they came in.
The shop has grown to become ¾ of my existing premises, and I hope to
offer most of the things my customers are looking for. I also try to fulfill a very
important social role by organising events, trips and beauty demonstrations, attempting to
keep people all over Scotland up to date with anything going on, and in touch with each
other."
