| August Thorn 'The meeting place of
God and science is the whole universe, because that's
where God is active.'
(Father Chris Cormally, Vatican astronomer, Arizona)
Catching
the edges of darkness
watching the night
from the earth
planets smooth as skin.
The wane of the moon in a summer sky
and wise men watching
galaxies of stars
above a different desert.
On a mountain in Arizona
inside a Vatican observatory,
admitting the probability
of life in outer space
in other forms:
will they have orbital warmth?
Will our God be their God
performing alien miracles?
Earth
It fits perfectly
this stone, lying in my light grasp
the heel of my palm gently rubbing
its surface. And I remember you
remembering the smooth skin of her neck
and my grasp turns to grip, wanting to crush
the pebble into fine dust.
