Old Isleworth
Education

There is ample evidence to support the theory that the true Mona Lisa was taken from Italy in the mid 1800's and was enshrined in the home of a nobleman in Somerset. Shortly before WWI, Hugh Blaker, an art collector in Bath, discovered it. He purportedly bought it for a few guineas, and took it home to his studio in Isleworth. It has since been known as the "Isleworth Mona Lisa." It was quite a bit larger than the Louvre Mona Lisa, and the background was never finished, just lightly sketched in. Blaker was enamoured of the painting. He felt that this more closely resembled Vsari's description of the Mona Lisa, rather than as the Vasari described it.
