Blushing Brides

23 November - 31 December 2005

Ingrid Kerma's last exhibition at Broadbent was two year ago.Unbounded was characterised by the Kerma's ongoing interest in the power of space and the capture of depth through the use of cobalt and prussian blues.

This exhibition turns away from the spatial and that sense of vast space and depth to look again at the surface of painting. As the title suggests Kerma has turned to the capture of an instant. These paintings seem almost to be held on the canvas by a breath.

Inevitably the paintings are working at the edges of our perception, sometimes incorporating the use of pearlescence, giving an ineffable quality, they are modest in that they only reveal themselves fully when viewed in the flesh. These pictures reflect a more restrained quality than the blue paintings - ultimately as rewarding but more challenging as well.
