Paul Kettle has very kindly taken some new photographs for this
website. Most are in addtion to those already on site
1. Matlock, Derbyshire. A
panoramic view from Riber Hillside replaces the one of the Town
Hall, which has been moved lower down the page. There's also
a picture of Matlock Green. The new pictures of Starkholmes
from the top of Holme Road and of the view from High Tor are
from the personal collection of the webmistress.
2. Bank Road and The Tram. Replacement picture of the tram shelter - my original was taken
in the rain, so this is a great improvement.
3. MI's - Miscellaneous.
Two photos of Harrison's Almshouses on Matlock Green
4. Schools - an additional
photo of All Saints, one of Ernest Bailey's and one of Charle's
White's. I've taken the opportunity to do some reorganisation,
in particular moving references down to the foot of the page
and adding hyperlinks to navigate down.
5. Water Cures - one
of Bank House Hydro. It became Wyvern House, then Ernest Bailey's
GS and now the CRO. References also changes as in (2.) above. |

"All
About Derbyshire" by Edward Bradbury (1884).
Late nineteenth century guide, written by a railway enthusiast.
The chapter about Matlock, complete with engravings and platinotype
photograph, is now onsite. Bradbury enthuses about most things,
though is very critical of the cavern guides and rowing boat
owners! A fascinating read. With very grateful thanks once more
to Jane Steer for her kindness in providing copies of her book. |
