A lovely view of the pathway beside the River Derwent at the foot of Matlock's Pic. The Edwardian visitor to one of Matlock's many hydropathic establishments may have enjoyed strolling along here.

"From Matlock Bank many pleasing views are presented, in which the church, most romantically situated amongst groups of trees on the verge of a rock, is a beautiful feature. The undulation of the limestone strata from Church Rock to Pig Tor, at the entrance into Matlock Dale, is extremely curious and highly worthy the observation of geologists."
Rhodes, Ebenezer (1824) "Peak Scenery", p.248

The postcard above was sent home to his relatives by a young Australian man whilst visiting England to study music. There's another card from the same collection on this website.

The same view, called "High Tor Walk, Matlock Bridge" was published as a coloured card

Matlock's War Memorial was erected on the top of Pic Tor; the site was chosen so the memorial could be seen from miles around.
