This is one of a series of cards of the school's interior that Reverend
Chippett, the headmaster, commissioned - presumably for the boys
to send home to their parents and as a way of advertising the
preparatory school that he ran at Riber castle.
"There were really only two classes. The younger boys were
in a form room on the ground floor under the charge of a mistress"[1].
Many school children have sat at similar wooden desks over the
years, tightly packed together, with their inkwells, sloping lids
and hard wooden seats. |
