Valentine's Series, posted in Rugby 23 Aug 1904 to a Mrs. Francie
Bayley in Coventry, who had a husband called George and a baby (not
named), "just to remind you of other days".
Although the card is called "Matlock Bridge" it also shows
Matlock Bank and was taken from just behind Dale Road / Snitterton
Road, probably from the footpath which runs just west of the line
of the railway line (please email if you disagree, as it could be
from slightly higher up).
Bank Road climbs the hill in the centre of the picture, with Lime
Grove Walk going off to the right. Areas that were green then have
now been built on. For example, only a smattering of the buildings
on Lime Grove Walk today had been built and a few had been built on
Edge Road. Smedley's Hydro, Matlock House and Rockside can all be
seen higher up and Wyvern House, later Ernest Bailey's School and
now the County Record Office, is slightly above the centre of the
picture. The buildings on the edge of Hall Leys Park which were very
close to the Bridge, and demolished many years ago, are also visible.

Just Images Matlock. Compare those
pictures with this postcard.
