The image shown above, by Mr. Jacob Schnebbelie, is of a small public house at Whittington, in Derbyshire. It first appeared in "The Gentleman's Magazine" of 1810 (Part II., p. 609, Plate II.) and was reproduced in Cox's "Memorials" in 1907. As I could not obtain an image from "The Gentleman's Magazine", I've used the image that appeared in "Memorials" instead.

The interesting story associated with this public house is related on page 68 of the text from "The Gentleman's Magazine" on this website. It is a description of an historic meeting between Thomas Osborne, Earl of Danby, William Cavendish, Earl of Devonshire, and Mr. John D'Arcy.
