'Space Patrol - The Fantastic Adventures of the Spaceship Orion' was shown in September 1966 in Germany. The seven episodes introduced the german audience for the first time to something never seen before on television: Science Fiction.

With tongue-in-cheek humour Commander Cliff Allister McLane and his crew aboard the Orion 8 fought evil aliens ("Attack from Outer Space"), eliminated a supernova on collision course to Earth ("Planet out of Orbit"), mastered schizoid robots ("Keepers of the Law") and even escaped a bunch of gangsters ("The Spacetrap") on a prison colony planet.

The special effects were years ahead of its time; camera, lights and dialogues were superb and the soundtrack by Peter Thomas became a Hit back in 1966. The series was a huge success in the European Countries and Southafrica, but never made it across the big pond.

Today "Space Patrol' has gained cult status in Germany with reruns in cinemas and on television. Follow-ups, like a 'Next Generation' were planned, but unfortunately never went into production. So it's up to the Fans to keep the series alive...
