Technologies
and Devices International, Inc. was founded in 1997 to commercialize
basic research and development in crystal growth and device
fabrication of wide band-gap semiconductors. TDI is developing
bulk crystals, epitaxial structures and devices over a range
of materials with applications in short wavelength optoelectronics
and high power semiconductor electronics.
In
February, 2003, TDI launched its novel semi-insulating (SI)
substrate materials for nitride-based devices. It consists
of an approximately 20 micron thick single crystal AlN film
deposited on a SiC substrate. TDII is currently offering 2-in
diameter samples and ramping up its production for larger
size wafers. The new products are targeted for substrate applications
for ultra high power AlGaN/GaN HEMTs and high power blue and
UV light emitters, LEDs and lasers. At a price less than $1,700
per 2-in wafer this material is an excellent, cost effective
semi insulating substrate for a variety of nitride semiconductor
devices, says TDII.
