Reviews and Commentary for Interesting Times : A Novel of Discworld (Discworld Series/Terry Pratchett)

 From Kirkus Reviews , 03/01/97:
More comic fantasy from Pratchett's Discworld (Men at Arms, 1996, etc.) featuring another aspect of the unending strife between humans, fates, and the god that ``generally looked after thunder and lightning, so from his point of view the only purpose of humanity was to get wet or, in occasional cases, charred.'' This time, the incompetent ``wizard'' Rincewind, hero of several of the earliest Discworld wingdings, makes a reappearance, along with other favorite characters such as the demented tourist, Twoflower, the unpredictable, multilegged Luggage--apparently it's found a mate--and Cohen the Barbarian. Fun, especially for those susceptible to Pratchett-inspired nostalgia. -- Copyright ©1997, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

I laughed so much I was sick
My book review on Terry Pratchet’s Interesting Times . Last night I was sick on Terry Pratchet’s Interesting Times .I would recommend this book to you for these reasons : 1. It is very funny and humorous 2. Terry has a brill style of writing!! 3. It’s just generally, all round, brilliant !!!! I would not however, recommend this book to kids under nine years old . The characters are : Rincewind, the wizzard who can’t even spell wizard, Cohen, the barbarian who’s had a lifetimes experience of not dying, Twoflower, the man who sent Rincewind off on his adventures , and many more. Rincewind finds himself lost without the luggage, on the counterweight continent, where gold is as common as copper and their worst curse is, "may you live in interesting times". I give this book 60/100, and I give Terry Pratchet 95/100. If you ever get to read this Terry, you’re my favourite writer Written by Ben Bessey nine years old

No one is safe with Pratchett
Again, a sacred cow gets skewered in this new installment. Frankly, I do not enjoy the character of Rincewind as much as some of the other characters like Om and Brutha, but Pratchett's new target, the over traditonal societies that remind me heavily of Ancient Europe and China, have been begging to be cut to ribbons. No one is safe again, and where else can you learn about the several different meanings of AAARRRGGGH!!! ? Fun and inventive.

Amusing,entertaining,good morale and often hilarious.
Oversimplified biased view of the east notwithstanding, this book has lot to teach our young people (and the chronically old) about correct outlook on life and poeple and teaches it with out pissing the reader off. If only these bloody English authors can get it in to their heads that the world has non-Anglo Saxon saviours..... --This text refers to the hardcover edition of this title.

As always,Rincewind, the incompetent wizard who can't even spell his name right,is pure delight, as Terry Pratchett tackles the issues of War (and his sons Fear and Panic, and daughter Clancy) and free speech over the amazing and revolutionary treastise "What I I did on my Summer Holydys." Wonderful stuff.

The Wizzard returns
Well, he had to come back one way or another, and once again Pratchett wheels you into a story that will make you laugh out loudlyfor a few seconds, only to realise that you're in a packed train on your way to work... Highly recomended to all Chaos Theorists >=o) --This text refers to the hardcover edition of this title.

One of the better DW novels, and that's saying a lot
Brilliant, hilarious. One of those books where Pratchett blends humour and philosophy perfectly. A Must read for Pratchett fans, people interested in china, and people who want to laugh and think at the same time. --This text refers to the hardcover edition of this title.
