The Parson Jack Russell Terrier Club computer breed records are based on the Kennel Club's data base of the breed which we acquired in 1991 with Kevin named as the licensee. This programme originally consisted of dog names only, so my self-appointed task since then has been to bring the information as up to date as possible by consulting the breed supplements, show catalogues, past P.J.R.T.C newsletters and other written material as well as talking to various individuals. All the information in the records is held on behalf of the Club, which is registered with the Data Protection Agency, and access is available to members, providing a stamped addressed envelope is supplied.
There are now over 4,200 terriers named on the computer with details about colour, height, nature of coat etc. as well as the names and addresses of breeders and owners. The programme can produce reports showing a kennel's breeding with all the litters, dams and sires and the grand dams and grand sires, progeny lists, as well as six generation pedigrees and it will also work out for you the Co-efficient of Inbreeding of past and proposed matings.
Information is needed particularly about dogs before 1990 so that pedigrees may be as complete as possible, so I ask members to look back to the beginning of their interest in the breed and to contact me to see whether the information I have is correct. For those of you who have read Sheila Atter's book "Jack Russell Terriers Today" I should welcome details along the lines she gives in Chapter Fourteen, "Establishing a Line" where she describes her own breeding programme.
The breed record programme has already been used to trace and confirm blood lines, to show breeders how lines they have bred have developed, to support the Club's application for Challenge Certificates and to provide information for the Kennel Club Judges Committee.
These Club records are a valuable resource and need your input so please help me to compile them accurately.
