We know that Alcester has been (and still is) a local centre rich in cultural activities and societies. However, small rural parishes around Alcester have also kept the cultural flag flying. We have in our possession printed pre-war programmes from Great Alne which show that between 1924 and 1939 the 'Alne Hill Players' produced annual plays performed in the Great Alne Memorial Hall. In the 1930s the leading lights always included the following families - Jephcott, Edkins, Finnemore, Adcock, Smith and Kennard. These were evidently the enthusiasts who kept the Players going. Woodward Jephcott was the leader.

The programmes show that they were of some distinction, for they took their productions to a wide range of villages in South Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

Perhaps World War Two ended their promising career? Any information readers may have would be welcomed.
