The Post Office
The Revd.John Heath Sykes (Vicar of Haselor, died 1911) was responsible for establishing a Post Office in Haselor and recommended two trustworthy people to keep it viz. Oliver Lawrence Leach and Rhoda Leach. I cannot remember in which year but do remember its moving up to its present building when I was quite small.

Haselor School Gardens

Years ago each senior boy had a vegetable garden, where the lawn and classroom are now. The gardening teacher was Mr.John Washbourne, who lived in the village and came every Friday afternoon to teach the boys. Later on, each child had an apple or pear tree on his or her own plots .I remember that mine was an apple tree, the second from the school wall. The first three or four were removed to make way for the garage. Mr.Victor Harris who lived at the top of Red Hill came to show us how to graft fruit trees and to bud roses: some were successful, all interesting. The girls only had a flower garden along the school railings facing the road.

Haselor Water Supply
I cannot remember which year the piped water came to Haselor. Mr. John Stewart of Hoo Mill was responsible for getting it. It was marvellous: it saved so many journeys to the pump; the wrapping up in straw and thawing out with kettles of hot water in the winter. After it was out of use and the handle removed, blue tits built in it: one could look down on the nest by removing the top part slightly. Mr.Woodward Jephcott came to see them sometimes; he was a great naturalist as well as historian.
