Society Meeting A.E.Davis
For those who missed any of our meetings and wish to know what happened we intend each
quarter to give short summaries.
- The January meeting consisted of a very interesting
illustrated talk by Mr.Steve Cracknell, leader of the archaeology team in Alcester. The
settlement was thought to have evolved following the setting up of the army's fort on
Primrose Hill around A.D. 60 but the walling of the town came much later. The date of the
deterioration of the town and the use of the site by the Saxons is still a mystery.
- The February meeting saw our vice chairman,
Mr.C.J.Johnson,give an illustrated talk on some interesting historical oddities in various
parts of Britain. Perhaps the biggest oddity of the evening was that that we had a
reasonable audience, for the meeting was in the middle of the snow and ice period which
afflicted us at that time; those who turned up must be congratulated and thanked, as well
as the speaker
