The Old Rectory was built for the Rev Devereux Mytton and supposedly was finished
by 1813, but Mytton may have continued to add parts on after that date. Mytton
was Rector of Llandyssil for 52 years and descended from the Myttons of Guilsfield
and the famous Parliamentary General. He was succeeded by Rev H Foulkes (of
Eriviatt) who became Archdeacon of Montgomery. Foulkes earned the great scorn
of the Cambrians when he pulled down the Old Church of St Tyssilio which had
one of the Montgomeryshire wooden towers, and replaced it with a new church
( by T H Wyatt ) which is adjacent to the Rectory. The Rectory was sold by the
Church in Wales in 1960.
