PRESS INFORMATION ________________________________________________
-Official Opening by Dame Cicely Saunders, OM
This exciting Art Exhibition will be officially opened by Dame Cicely Saunders, OM, Chairman of St Christopher's, on Thursday 12th June at 2.OOpm. All the exhibits have been made by day patients at St Christopher's, working with professional artists, following the theme of the Four Elements - earth, wind, fire and water. They include a large wall hanging, mobile, mural of an underwater scene, and many individual and distinctive paintings, models, writing and pottery.
The Four Elements touch everybody's life, and are part of our experience of living and of accepting change, as well as part of our memories and our search for meaning in what the future might hold. Working with this theme has produced creativity and artistic expression which is relevant to us all, and of course is of particular therapeutic value to people facing serious and life-threatening illness.
St Christopher's Day Centre offers a relaxed, informal environment for over 20 patients a day to share in a wide range of creative opportunities. These are mainly patients being cared for at home by St Christopher's Nurses, Doctors and Social Workers - over 350 people on any one day, throughout South East London, Bromley and Croydon.
St Christopher's provides expert nursing and medical care to over 1,200 people a year with
A medical foundation caring for patients with advanced disease, supporting their families and advancing palliative education and research.
Everyone is invited to come and see the Exhibition themselves at St Christopher's. After the
Official Opening, it will be open to the public on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th June, 4.OOpm -
8.OOpm and on Saturday and Sunday 14 - 15th June 1 1.OOam - 5.OOpm. Light refreshments will be available.
