A big thank-you to all those who voted for Jimmy. With all unverified email, fax and postal votes added on, Jimmy may well have secured over 1,000 in total. The final total as you can see will not be enough to win him the Sports Personality of the Year award, but he will be chuffed to have secured so many votes and of course, helped to raise a fantastic sum for the Children in Need appeal.

Jimmy learnt of our campaign early on thanks to a reporter from BBC Radio Wiltshire and he was knocked out by the kind thoughts and wishes of all the Carlisle fans. Rest assured, Jimmy's place in the United Hall of Fame is guaranteed and his goal has already been voted the greatest in the club's 95-year history.

We may not get to see Jimmy on Sunday night as the BBC parade all the superstars of the sporting world in front of the cameras. It will be a shame if he does not get a mention because he is a genuine hero to many thousands and epitomises the triumph of the journeyman pro.

We can only hope that those who run Carlisle United have also not forgotten Jimmy's goal and how close we came to disaster last season. Although it was a golden moment for many fans, it is not something many of us would like to live through again. Maybe the powers that be could see fit to invite Jimmy back to do a 'golden gamble' half-time draw. It would be a big bonus for the United faithful to have Jimmy back in Cumbria. He would get the biggest cheer of the season - guaranteed.
