PRIMETIME PRESENTERS
Phil Angell -
Programme Controller and
Weekday Breakfast Show Presenter
Phil
Angell is an Arts Graduate whose radio career started with
LBC in London scheduling the commercial advertising log.
Phil's fast wit meant it was not long before his voice graced
the airwaves and for 8 years he was the Breakfast Presenter
and Programme Controller at Fox FM; one of the UK's most
successful FM radio stations.
A
chance meeting with Pirate FM's Managing Director at a radio
industry seminar, spurred on by the fact that Phil's girlfriend's
parents live at Porthpean near Carlyon Bay, led Phil to
leave Fox FM to join Pirate FM102. Phil Angell is now a
firm favourite with South West listeners, combining intelligent
presentation with a sharp wit.
Phil's
Breakfast Show is fast-moving with 10 songs played in even
the busiest hour. 'The Pirate Pack' at 7.25 a.m. and 8.25
a.m. has primary school children, from a different local
school each week, answering questions destined to get a
hilarious response. In contrast, Business Update at the
end of the 8 a.m. News keeps the listener informed about
the very latest local business news. 'The Biz' at around
8.40 a.m. generally pokes fun at people in the entertainment
industry who deserve to have fun poked at them.
Occasionally Phil's serious nature leads to him exposing attempts to
con or mislead the public, like the premium phone line offer
which meant that for an investment of over £40 the
caller could win a miniature of vodka and 10 cigarettes.
Above all, the listener tunes into Pirate FM's weekday breakfast
show knowing that he/she will be informed, entertained and
uplifted.
Duncan Warren
- Morning Presenter Monday - Saturday
and Pirate FM's Head of Community Affairs
Duncan
Warren has been broadcasting to the South West listener
for 25 years. Duncan is best known for The Pirate Tease,
a trivia quiz which in one form or another has graced the
South West airwaves for 20 years. A spin off from the Pirate
Tease - The Unanswered Question - led to an American firm
of stockbrokers getting 320 calls from the South West in
one day.
For the last two years Sir Cliff Richard has recorded a
2 hour Christmas Special with Duncan and last Christmas
this was aired on four other radio stations.
Duncan is the radio station's day-to-day link with The Pirate
Trust and several days of the week, most weeks of the year,
Duncan is involved in a Pirate Trust or other community
event. This summer Duncan will be 'walking the plank' at
the Newlyn Fish Festival; if the insurance cover is agreed!
Ian Polmear
- Afternoon Presenter and Station Producer

Take
a pinch of Adrian Juste, a large serving of Kenny Everett
and Ian Polmear's own production skills and you probably
have one of the UK's fastest moving radio shows. Ian has
worked his way up from the occasional freelance shift, then
to a couple of weekend evening shows and now to the weekday
afternoon/drivetime show.
Ian
Polmear's production skills are evident even to the casual
listener and help transform even the simplest dedication
into a memorable broadcast event.
Visitors
to Pirate FM102 sometimes look in from the reception area
to find Ian doing his speech links standing up or - more alarmingly
- sitting cross legged on the studio chair. At a time when
personality presentation is increasingly rare, Ian Polmear
stands out like a ray of radio sunshine.
