Chamonix - January 1999

headcam.jpg (58579 bytes)In January 1999 we spent a long weekend in Chamonix. We traveled with Ski Weekend (who are great for this kind of break!), flew by Swiss Air from London to Geneva, stayed in a quaint little hotel and skied with an excellent guide/instructor from Ski Sensations.

The Chamonix trip was the first time I got to use the helmet mounting that I have made for my video camera. It worked pretty well, the long life battery on the right hand side acting as a counter-weight for the camera on the left. The camera is pretty well balanced and you hardly notice you're wearing it when you ski. I did get a few strange looks though... The camera mount is made from a canoe helmet, two camera bags and plenty of plastic cable ties. Total cost, around £50. The camera's recording light shows through the bag, and the remote can be used to switch it on and off.

Chamonix's a great place to ski and an excellent place to brush up on that off-piste technique. I expect we'll try and get back there this season...
