Spanish Verbs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How accurate is this application?
We have spent a great deal of time testing Spanish Verbs and are therefore very confident about the accuracy of word spellings and verb conjugations. Unlike other verb conjugation programs, all irregular verbs have been specifically taken into account.

Why is it so important to have a lookup dictionary of verbs as part of a verb conjugation program?
We have included a lookup dictionary of verbs in Spanish Verbs in order to make the application more user-friendly and to maintain the accuracy of the conjugations. Other verb conjugation programs require the user to enter the Spanish verb in full - this introduces a risk of error if the user spells the word wrong or forgets to put an accent on a key letter.

Why can't I lookup English words using the "Lookup" field?
Spanish Verbs was designed as a reference tool for Spanish verbs and not as a comprehensive Spanish/English - English/Spanish dictionary. (See "Where can I get a full Spanish/English dictionary?" below). Since the English verbs can have different translations into Spanish depending upon their usage, you should use the "Find" feature - see "What is the purpose of the "Find" feature below".

Why are there only 4,000 verbs?
The vocabulary for Spanish Verbs was designed to be comprehensive for study, travel, every-day living and business purposes. Many Spanish verbs can be represented in a reflexive form and negated by adding "re" at the beginning. Since Spanish students are aware of such basics, we kept the size of Spanish Verbs to a minimum by avoiding such unnecessary repetitions.

Why are there only verbs?
Spanish Verbs was designed to help users with the conjugation of Spanish verbs. It is not intended to be a full Spanish/English dictionary.

Where can I get a full Spanish/English dictionary?
We recommend the excellent Collins Spanish/English - English/Spanish dictionary, featuring over 100,000 translations and over 70,000 references. Available from Palmtop Software at www.handango.com (Palmtop Software is not affiliated with Westering in any way).

Why can't I add entries to Spanish Verbs?
Spanish Verbs was designed as a reference tool and the list of Spanish verbs was intended to be comprenhensive. Please let us know if you feel an important verb is missing and we will add it to future versions.

Why do some verbs have incomplete conjugations?
Some Spanish verbs do not exist in all the tenses. For example: "soler" (to be in the habit of) does not exist in the futuro or condicional tenses. In these instances, Spanish Verbs displays a blank conjugation.

What is the purpose of the "Find" feature?
Some users may wish to use Spanish Verbs to find the Spanish equivalent of a particular English verb. Since the English verbs can have different translations into Spanish depending upon their usage, this feature will help you to find the best translation.
For example: searching for "draw" would give the following results:
- arrimar (draw up)
- descorrer (draw back)
- dibujar (draw)
- empatar (draw, tie)
- trazar (draw)

Why does the "Find" feature only work on the infinitive of the Spanish verb and not all the conjugated variations?
The current version of Spanish Verbs has over 4,000 verbs conjugated into 16 tenses. The Find feature would be extremely slow if it had to search through these 380,000 possibilities. Additionally, most verbs are easy to recognise since the beginning remains the same (notable exceptions being ser, estar, haber and tener).

What about program upgrades?
