Library Wants List Can You Take Photos
Name :- John Melhuish
I have had a camera in my hands on and off since I was nine years old.
I have always loved the ability to create images from the real world. never
one to alter or amend what I see but to take it with a mind of improving
the image with the camera. When time, weather and location permits
I love night shots. With an interest in the countryside, natural history
and historical sites they have always been the location for my images.
My job as a general scientist in the medical fields also involves
me with taking photographs and other forms of imagery. Digital images are
now starting to make an impact especially when quantification is involved.
But the good old 35mm compact or SLR is still the mainstay of everyday
work. I have got good results from most of the cameras I have used and
my favoured camera is a Minolta alpha 707si with a 28-70 sigma lens and
a selection of telephotos. I still have a place for my numerous Centon
DF 300's a cheap camera but in my opinion one that gives excellent results
for the money. If you add a good Minolta 50mm f1.4 lens they get even better.
I still use them for flash photography and when the environment tends to
be risky for a camera. At just over the one hundred pond mark and many
good second-hand one's available, with a lens going for around £75
they can almost be considered as a disposable SLR. In the larger format
area I use a Kiev 88 6x6 camera with an 80 mm lens as standard. If you
know where to by these cameras abroad their is a wealth of equipment available
and at very low prices when compared to other medium format cameras. The
bodies are now available with cloth shutters, lock up mirrors, various
backs and over 8 lens. A new project is to adapt a 120 back to take 35mm
transparency film and walla we have a cheap wide angle landscape camera.
I am looking for a 6x7 medium format camera so if you know of any for sale
then drop us a line, I fancy the Pentax 6x7 but any other make will do
if the price is affordable. Landscapes and night shots just cry out for
a fuji 6x17 camera but whose got the money and a small donkey to buy one
and carry it around. To keep things steady I use a Manfrotto 055C tripod.
After four years service it's starting to look a little battered but functional
wise it's as good as the day I bought it. Not one to keep things in a nice
padded box it has seen service on many 4X4 adventures world wide, been
covered in ice more times than I can remember, stuck in mud, stood in the
rain, rivers and sea, used as a seat, tent pole, walking aid, climbing
aid and theirs nothing better for bashing down the welsh undergrowth to
get to that perfect location. I am always interested to hear from any photographers
in the S Wales area or of any trips to distant parts. Drop us an E-mail
Welshphotolib@dial.pipex.com..I
will be looking for more photographers from Wales if the Library take's
off.
Welcome to the Welsh Photographic Library. This is a small library of
photographs dedicated to images of the Modern Welsh landscape, Industry,
Natural History, and Historic locations. All the pictures are of Wales
(or from more distant parts of the World) that have been taken by myself
or other Welsh photographers. (See, can you take photos).
It is hoped to build up the images within the library so that it can supply
any requests for photographs of Wales. This web site at present can be
used to view a selection of images from the library that are scanned on
to the pages in low resolution (100-150 dpi ). If you would like to purchase
or use any of the images or see a greater selection then see the commercial
availability information. If you would like a framed copy of any of
the pictures displayed or a particular picture of any location in wales
then see the the framed Ilfochrome
prints section. If you want to request any images of wales then see

Postage and packing extra. If you require more than one framed image then please ask for quotation. For ordering E-mail Welshphotolib@dial.pipex.com. For locations outside of europe it is usually cheaper to have the picture framed locally as postage for framed prints containing glass can be more expensive and put the print at risk due to breakage.
As the library contents will change to give views of different locations any old image sets can br reloaded for you or specific areas that are available can be scanned and loaded. Just E-mail with requests. There could be some delay due to availability or disc space problems but I can inform you of their posting by e-mail. Welshphotolib@dial.pipex.com. There may also be a limit to the time they can be kept on the site due to demand. If you would like a particular image please E-mail with the format and the image number. All photographs are individually numbered. Just leave the pointer on the image and the number will appear or the number is displayed with the image depending on location. Remember the scanned images do not have the quality of the original transparencies so requesting a sample or individual slides may be the best route. Welshphotolib@dial.pipex.com
