Christmas Carol Concert

A concert of Christmas music is held each year in early December. Local schools are invited to join the choir in a programme of traditional and new seasonal music and readings. 

Christmas Tree Lighting-up ceremony

A recent addition to our calendar, the Choral Society  provides a group to lead the community carol singing at the annual lighting up ceremony. 

Summer Concert

Every year the Choral Society presents one or two concerts on behalf of local causes or charities. Often the organisers provide light refreshments or supper as well so that a pleasant programme of music and food on a summer’s evening is enjoyed by all. 

The music is a mix of sacred and secular – the latter including lighter items such as songs from the shows.

Amounts raised are generally in the region of £500 to £1,000. In recent years, money has been raised for

• several local church funds (in 2007, it was Raydon and Boxford parish churches)

• for local charities (the Ipswich Hospice in 2002; Babergh Home-Start in 2005)

• and national charities (one year saw money raised for Albanian orphanages).

One-off events

The Society has supported the Mayor’s chosen charity by contributing to a fund-raising event and has sung at a reception at the Regimental Officers’ Mess at Wattisham. 

Singing Days and Workshops

The Choir enjoys the occasional all-day rehearsal at weekends, sometimes including a shared lunch, and has also organised workshops which provide an opportunity to explore new repertoire as well as voice production technique. Local townspeople as well as members of neighbouring choral societies are invited to join us for these events. 

Finally

Our members are often very involved in the wider musical community, and participate in special events at venues such as the Snape Maltings concert hall and the Royal Festival Hall, including concerts ‘from scratch’ .There is usually enough interest in such events to ensure members can share transport and enjoy a good day out together.
