Wholly natural, wholly beautiful...

The Jacob sheep is an ancient breed: the name recalls the Old Testament story of Laban and his son-in-law Jacob, and the first Jacob sheep were probably brought to Europe by the Moors, hundreds of years ago.
The Jacob sheep is also very distinctive: it generally has four curving horns - and sometimes six! It also has a unique piebald fleece. The wool can be variously blended to give soft, delicate natural colour yarns from white, through silvers and greys to dark browns and black. Since the yarn is natually coloured, Jacob woollen products contain no dyestuffs, and are therefore ideal for anyone allergic to dye-chemicals.
Cotswold Woollen Weavers spin and weave Jacob fleece into two different beautiful plaid rugs for you to choose. They both have rolled fringes, and a brushed-blanket handle.

The Jacob Throw from Cotswold Woollen Weavers
Woven from 100% natural undyed English yarn, with rolled fringes
Colourways: natural light plaid, natural dark plaid
Size: 50" x 72" (125cm x 180cm)

The Romantic story of a Prince, a Fair Maid, and an ancient tartan...

It is 1746 and the Jacobite cause is in tatters after the disastrous highland Battle of Culloden. Bonny Prince Charlie's attempt to restore the Stuarts to the throne is over, and he is fleeing westwards before the forces of King George.
The Prince seeks refuge in Borrodale, where the fair Catriona Macdonald gives him food and shelter. Later he sets off again wrapped in one of Catriona's tartan plaids against the Scottish storms.
Still harried by the marauding English army, Charles escapes to the Hebridean islands, and thence to France and safety. He leaves the plaid with Campbell of Scalpay, and it is divided up into precious momentoes of the lost Stuart cause. Secret momentoes too, for the English crown is aware of the Power of the Plaid, and the wearing of tartan is banned for forty years afterwards...
... For two hundred years fragments of this tartan lay in various museums, after all this time largely unrecognised. Now eight years of painstaking research has pieced together the pattern and allows for an authentic reconstruction of this ancient and beautiful tartan, so intimately connected with this most romantic of stories.
Cotswold Woollen Weavers are proud to have been associated with the reconstruction of this ancient tartan, and now offer this soft, lambswool plaid throw. As you wrap it around you, think of that day when a Prince's call for help was answered by young Catriona MacDonald of Borrodale with what will always be known as "Lady Borrodale's Gift".
