We have a regular paid-up membership of between 100 and 150, mostly writers, or aspiring writers. Our longest-serving member joined in 1949; most current members joined in the last ten years. They include many who are new to writing and some who are already well-established, including our new Presidents Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran.
We were set up in 1948 as a writers' co-operative, run by an Executive Committee elected once a year. The original constitution provided for the Committee to include a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The organisation has changed little down to the present time. Everyone gives their services free and all offices are honorary.
Our current venue is upstairs at the Horse and Groom in Great Portland St W1 at the junction with New Cavendish St, just a step from Broadcasting House and midway between Great Portland St underground and Oxford Circus. Easy to park after 7pm.
We are lucky to have a team of professional actors within the membership as well as gifted amateurs. The good qualities of a play are greatly enhanced by a perceptive rendering, particularly when the actors have rehearsed it together over an extended Sunday lunch provided by the author. Some of our performers are very well-known. Their agents can be contacted through the P-P Email address P-P@dial.pipex.com or by telephoning 020 8883 0371.
