About Harmeny Athletic Club |

Harmeny AC was founded in 1977 by individuals at the Harmeny School, Balerno, and after a couple of years opened up membership to the Currie, Balerno and Juniper Green areas of Edinburgh. We have since grown to cover Ratho, Kirknewton, West Edinburgh, and members are welcome from anywhere in the Lothians and Borders. The club is a member of Scottish Athletics Limited (SAL).
Training sessions are held at:
Balerno High School, Monday 6.00 - 7.00 pm: All ages from 8 upwards (Wednesday evenings have been suspended until additional coaches are recruited)
Soughton Track, Thursdays 6.30 - 7.30: Older juniors & Seniors
Summer outdoor training locally is at Malleny Park (home to Currie Rugby Club). Specialist groups are taken to Saughton Track, Meadowbank and Craiglockhart Sports Centre.
For youngsters it is basically about fitness and co-ordination, with a gradual introduction to some of the track & field events. During the winter we are mainly indoors and are keen to encourage youngsters to participate in the Norwich Union sponsored SportsHall and Shine Awards. We compete in various outdoor Track and Field competitions during the summer and a variety of other events throughout the year. Our ethos is you only know what you can achieve if you have a go.
An informal / club Road running / Fun-running group ("Pentland Runners") meets at Balerno High School on Sundays at 10.00am, and Wednesdays evenings (jogscotland) 7.00 (phone or email for info).

We compete in a variety of leagues for all age groups. The Club Track and Field fixtures for the summer + some local road races are updated at the start of each season. Club Records are kept for all age groups at all recognised events. Events such as the 145m (when the 150m start line was in the wrong place) and the 1200m Steeplechase without a water jump (during a dry spell) are not included.
We organise children's races and the 6 mile Rigg Race during Balerno Childrens Gala Week.
