Club AGM
The club Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday 30th September at Currie Rugby Club commencing 7.45pm. This is a chance to hear a bit about our activities over the last year and our plans for the coming year. As ever, we would welcome some new faces, especially to help co-ordinate activities for the younger members. The one thing that has the biggest impact on the club's ability to maintain a respected position in our communities and in Scottish Athletics is the amount of support that parents are prepared to put into it as coaches, administrators and volunteer helpers. So if you'd like help support the next generation of Scottish stars, and meet some of today's, then please come along.
As an extra incentive to attend there will be
free refreshments provided (wine and soft drinks).Startrack at Balerno
There was a large turnout of over thirty Primary School youngsters attending the StarTrack activity week at Balerno, and several have now started coming along to club training nights. Welcome to all of you, and indeed, to all newcomers.
New Coaching arrangements
Over the last couple of weeks we have been distributing a note about the new coaching arrangements for older juniors (U15 upwards) and seniors (Thursday evenings at Saughton Track). We have now started introducing some members to the new set up. The actual hand-over of coaching responsibilities from Betty to Bob & Monika will happen in late October after Betty and Bob have had their "summer" holidays. Once we have the new groups and running (no pun intended) will we see about bringing in special event and technique coaches.
The Thursday night sessions are open to all seniors (& parents) and will basically concentrate on speed and endurance work, interspersed with additional event-specific work on some nights.
Championships
East District Championships, Sat Sun, 11/12 May, Meadowbank
One of the advantages of working literally just opposite the Scottish Athletics Offices at South Gyle is that I can pop into the office to seek out any missing results. Which is what I did to find the results missed out of the last Herald.

The times recorded by both Paul and Shaun would make them eligible to compete in the Men's League which has very tight qualifying standards for U17's competing in track events.

Edinburgh Secondary Schools Championships
Courtesy of Willie Lyall we've got a copy of the results Edinburgh Secondary Schools Championships, where we had members representing six schools. The age groups are slightly different from club competition. We trust that the teachers officiating recorded times and distances accurately (although we have spotted a couple of possible mistakes)!

Monklands Cup Sat 11th August, Coatbridge
We eventually raised two teams to compete in this "Scottish Cup" match for girls / women: an under 15 team and a Senior Women team (in which U17's) were competing with Seniors. Performances details, and final placings are given below. Although the match took place in the school holidays and a large number of girls were unavailable with holidays and work, the performances of both teams in finishing eighth in their age groups is the best team result we've had in many years. All the U15 girls are in their first year in this age group, so next year .....

Match 3: Scotstoun 8 Sep:
It's Summer, .... It's Scotland, .... It's Scotstoun, .... It's Sunday, .... It's Raining, .... It's Flooded, ... It's OFF!!
For the first time that we can recall, an Athletics meeting was cancelled due to a surplus of wet stuff falling from the Sky which saturated the field and flooded the ("all-weather"!) track.
Just as well it hadn't happened a few weeks earlier when the Americans and Russians were in town for an International match at Scotstoun that would have been embarrassing for Scottish Sport.
