NEWSLETTER OF HARMENY ATHLETIC CLUB, BALERNO, EDINBURGH

Club News.....Club News.....Club News.....Club News.....Club News.....

Club AGM

At the club AGM held in September all the existing committee agreed to continue in place for (at least) another year, however we would appreciate any help from anyone who could help us out with the organisation or training.

A Brief Holiday

We hope everyone has a Happy Christmas and a Merry New year, but doesn't relax too much over the holiday period... ... training at Balerno High School resumes on Monday 8 January

Getting the Herald issued & sent out – the online alternative

Sometimes the delay in getting the words down on paper and getting the latest copy sent out to everyone can take a week or two, and some news gets out of date pretty quickly. However, we do post a copy of the Herald on our web-site as soon as it is available. If you log on to www.harmenyac.org.uk you'll find as much up-to-date information about the club (online Herald, About us), the competitions we are in and assorted news (Noticeboard). Several members are already being notified by email when the latest edition is available, so if you'd prefer to be kept in touch electronically, email me at bob.douglas@dial.pipex.com.

.... and the on-line colour supplement

Many of you who competed in the last meeting at Scotstoun may have noticed a couple of committee members (Willie Lyall and Paul McIntosh) wandering around taking some action shots, and many of those present "posed" for relay team pictures. The best (?!?) of these have been posted on the web-site. The very best posers (?!?) have used to create posters which are now on the noticeboards at Balerno HS and Currie HS.

Mens League 2001

The Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Athletics League (Senior men) there was no movement forward on re-organising the League to allow clubs to put out combined teams, in spite of us sending in a note outlining our thoughts to the secretary several weeks beforehand. Instead it is being put back to a couple of league committee to work update the current league rules, and to consider proposals for revamping them in a year's time.

McDonalds Young Athletes League 2001

(U13, U15, U17 male & female)

A suggested change in the format next year that seems to have the support of most clubs, including ourselves, looks likely to be adopted. Instead of having East, Central and West divisions as in previous years, different groups of clubs will be brought together for each meeting, so it will give everyone a bit more variety in who they are competing against.

Railtrack Womens League 2001

(Girls - U13, U15, U17, & senior women)

We have not been involved with this league for a couple of years, but given the quality of our girls, and the limited opportunities as they move into the U17 / Senior age group, we are considering approaching the "Lothians" Team about participating. This is a combined team drawn from City of Edinburgh, Corstorphine, Livingstone, Lasswade and some of the other clubs in the Lothians. We, and the athletes themselves, believe that this would give more of our older girls and seniors a better chance of competition than joining up with Edinburgh Woollen Mill, the current champions.

Congratulations to Stephanie Lyall, Marbeth Shiell, Amy-Jo Shiell and Paul McDougall who were selected to represent the East District in the District Championships held at a cold & frosty Cumbernauld on Saturday 16 December.

Keep Smiling

During the summer we handed out "Smile" cards for users of the Jet Service Station. So far this has raised over £70 for club funds, so the message to all car – owners is to "keep smiling" (assuming there aren't any more petrol shortages). An extra supply of cards has been ordered, and will be available at training to pass on to parents.
