I only went to reading 99 because of silverchair-whom im a big fan of. its just the whole toilet thing always put me off of going. but being a dedicated fan i went along anyway. And all that worrying was for nothing because i had the most incredible day!

i was in the mosh pit for pitchifter and had to get out after being punched in the face and having enough blood running down my face to fill an army. Anyway 20 minuits after that i ran into Dexter Holland. I begged for an autograph and after battering my eyelids and using my feminine charms he agreed if i pretended to be his girlfriend (so not to make it obvious otherwise hed be swamped by lusting hormonal teenagers)
anyway we got near the backstage door and he started sighning stickers for my guitar. Then i had an idea. I asked if silverchair were backstage and he said yeah. so again after about 3 hours of begging (well 3 seconds) i pursuaded him to let me meet them. my heart felt like it was on fire. i was going to meet the guys who inspired me to play guiter-and who got me into the whole rock thing in the first place. Anyway Dexter is the nicest guy on the planet, and we had a lovely chat about bands and stuff.
i got to the hut where silverchair were and went it. my heart stopped as soon as i saw Daniel Johns back. He turned around and smiled. But he looked awful. his skin looked grey, and i never realized how thin he actually was. so we had a chat and i got a photo with him (email me if you would like to see the pictures of me and him-as well as dexter) but i must say the term 'never meet your heros' is very much true in this case. i was throughly disppointed. he was so arrogant and just didnt want to know. the thing that bugs me the most is that if it weren't for all his fans he wouldnt even be there playing on stage. Ben and Chris were ok but generally they were not friendly at all. Dexter was a great guy. Its just a shame that all of these so called 'rock stars' have such an attitude problem.
my disappointment was increased after the silverchair performance. people were booing straight after the ever predictable 'book joke'. their songs kept changing and their gig was too short. i went to the gigs at brixton and cemden earlier on and their sets were vertualy the same. i must say after that experience i have stopped buying bootlegs and only occasionally listen to their music
but again the offspring came out on tops with an amazing stage set. it was a shame i wasnt in the crowd!
