| What's The Ground
Like? |
| On
one side of the ground is the site of new Main Stand which is being constructed.
It is hoped that the 4,500 capacity which is single tiered, all seated and covered,
will be completed sometime during the 2006/07 season.
On the other side of the ground is the Millmoor Lane Stand,
which has a mixture of covered
and open seating. Roughly each section on this side is about a third of
the length of the pitch. The covered seating in the middle of this stand
looks quite distinctive, with several supporting pillars and an arched roof. Both ends are
former terraces, with several supporting pillars and have now been made all seated. The larger of the two is the
Tivoli End, used by home fans. It was noticeable
that the pitch slopes up towards this end. The ground also benefits from a
striking set of floodlights, the pylons of which are some of the tallest
that I have come across (approximately 124 feet high, I've since been
told).

For Visiting Supporters? |
Away fans are
housed in the Railway End where
normally just over 2,000 fans can be accommodated.
This end is covered and all seated and it
doesn't take a lot of away fans to really make some noise. On the downside
there are a couple of supporting pillars which could impede your view. An
unusual feature is that away fans can only access this end via a small,
narrow alleyway.
I enjoyed my last visit to the ground. I found the Rotherham fans fairly
friendly in the pub that I visited before the game and the standard of
stewarding within the ground to be relaxed. There is also a great range of
pies available inside the ground, with even hot pork pies available (at
£1.20 each). I particularly enjoyed the Pukka Chicken Balti Pie on sale
at
£1.70 each, which is made with puff pastry and is different to the other
brand of Balti pie available elsewhere.Top Of

| Where To Drink? |
I had an enjoyable pre-match drink in the Butchers Arms
in Midland Road. The pub had a warm welcome and a good mix of home and
away supporters. There is on street parking to be had in the surrounding
streets and the ground is about an eight minute walk away. To find this
pub; as you proceed along the A629 from the A6109, turn right at the first
island that you reach on the A629 which appears to lead into a small
industrial estate and then take the second left into Midland Road. The
Butchers Arms is situated down this road on the left, opposite the bus
depot.
Stuart Abbs recommends the Tivoli Club at the ground. I
have also been advised that 'Shooters' (formerly known as Queens) and the
'Prince of Wales' are best avoided by away supporters. Wayne Hopkins
recommends the Millmoor Pub on the corner of Millmoor Lane next to the ground. 'This is a
great place for both home and away fans to meet before a match and is also the HQ for the
Rotherham United Supporters Club'. Please note that alcohol is not available
in the away end.
Neil Uttley adds; 'The Moulders Rest on Masbrough Street occasionally let
away fans in depending on the opposition. Otherwise there are a good
selection of pubs in the town centre, however many employ door staff on
match days and police presence is high; some pubs operate a no club
colours policy. Recommended is the Rhinoceros (a Wetherspoons pub) on
Bridgegate (across the road from McDonalds) and one to avoid is the County
Borough opposite the Bus Station on the corner of Corporation St and
Bridgegate'.

| How To Get There
By Car & Where To Park |
Leave the M1 at Junction 34 and take the A6109 towards
Rotherham. At the large roundabout which is the junction with the A629 turn right.
Proceed along the A629 crossing a small roundabout and then at the second
much larger roundabout turn right and you will see the ground over on your
right. You can
see the floodlights of the ground for some distance away. Either street parking
or there is a car park behind the Main Stand which costs £2.
There is a handy unofficial
car
park that away fans can use
behind the Zone nightclub on Main Street. Access
to the car park which costs £2, is by a slip road off the dual carriageway and is well
signposted near
to the
ground. From the car park a subway takes you down the back of the scrap
yards to Millmoor Lane and the away end turnstiles.

| The ground is walkable from Rotherham train
station, about a five to ten minute walk. Steve Orton
adds; 'To get to the ground, turn
left out of the railway station and walk towards the roundabout. Then
follow the blue tourist type signs directing pedestrians to Rotherham
United F.C'. Otherwise if you don't fancy the walk then bus numbers
8 (to Kimberworth) & 14 (to Meadowhall) stop outside Millmoor and are every 10 minutes or
so on Saturday afternoons from Rotherham bus station.

Do The Rotherham Fans Sing? |
And it's Rotherham United, Rotherham
United FC,
We are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen!
If I had the wings of a sparrow
And the dirty great **** of a crow
I'd fly over Hillsborough tomorrow.......
Oh Sheffield, oh Sheffield,
Is full of s***, is full of s***,
Oh Sheffield is full of s***....
Miller
men, Miller men,
In
red
and
white
We'll stand and fight,
We're Miller men!
We hate Sheffield and we hate Sheffield......
Millers! Millers! Millers....
Rotherham till I die...
Thanks to Michael Walsh & Stuart Jones for providing the song information.
