London Road, Peterborough United
v Ipswich Town, League Cup 1st Round
Tuesday August 22nd 2006, 7.45pm
By Steve Bingham

Whilst continuing my trek around the 92, my son Jonathan and I visited Peterborough United for Ipswich's fruitless search for the 2nd round of the Carling Cup! Having followed the 'Town' around for many years, this was the 50th away ground whilst watching Ipswich. Being fairly local, the journey was very straight forward, signs into the town and stadium were good, and we easily found a street park facing out of town for a quick exit after the game.

Upon arrival, I usually take a few photos, and asked the helpful stewards for advice. Was directed to the enquiries desk in the main reception area, and was escorted through the tunnel and out to the pitch to take few snaps. They all seem surprised why I would want to do such a thing! My son was impressed, as the Town players were then getting off the bus and signing autographs.

Before the game we enjoyed a drink in the club bar, £1 each entrance but only £2 a pint, with Sky tv as well. The ground was a throw back to old stadiums, apart from the new grandstand which is impressive. Terraces behind each goal, with bags of atmosphere and noise, Town taking their customary 1200 fans. Only 4,000 home fans, but they enjoyed our defeat all the same!

Toilets were the usual bitumen wall, but didn't bother with the halftime pie and tea, the queue was far too long.

After the extra time finish, a brisk walk across the road, jump in the car, and was on the A1 in no time.

Another nice old ground visited, pity about the result though. Still another 20 or so grounds to do, but so many modern ones are all the same, I shall not enjoy them as much as when I started at Leeds Road's final match, Ayesome Park's final match, Boothferry Park in the 1960's, Anfield and the Kop, and Sincil Bank where it all started in 1964.
