Alfie Bass, actor and comedian born London 1916, married Liverpool 1946. Film roles included "Lavender Hill Mob" with Alec Guiness, "Alfie" with Michael Cain and "Fearless Vampire Killers" a horror spoof directed by Roman Polanski. Theatre roles included "Plant in the Sun" with Paul Robeson and "Fiddler on the Roof". Perhaps he was most famous, in the UK, for his TV roles including "Bootsie and Snudge" and "The Army Game" which were popular series in the 1950s and 1960s. Alfie died in 1987 and is much missed.
