Ault Hucknall Church |
A pleasant drive down leafy Derbyshire lanes brings you to the tiny parish Church of St. John the Baptist at Ault Hucknall. Passing the great yew tree, in the cemetery and entering the church, you will see the fine monument to the first Countess of Devonshire which was designed by John Smythson. There is also a black floor slab marking the burial place of the 17th century political philosopher Thomas Hobbes who was a tutor to the son of Sir William Cavendish at Chatsworth House and died at Hardwick.
