Church and Market Square

Trinity Church, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, was founded about 1135. In its time it has been used as a school, prison and court. Today it is the Regimental Museum of the Green Howards.

The Market Cross (Latitude N54:24.245 Longitude W001:44.266), a stone obelisk topped with a round ball is situated on the site of a medieval cross pulled down in 1771. Beneath was a 12000 gallon reservoir of water that was piped into the town.
