Mackenzie Thorpe

Richmond is not without its artists. Perhaps the best known is MacKenzie Thorpe whose unusual and evocative scenes of Dales life have won admirers from around the world.

MacKenzie was born in 1956 about 30 miles away from Richmond in Middlesborough. His school career was not helped by dyslexia and he left at the age of 15. After a succession of manual jobs he won a place at art college at the age of 20. Having already developed his own personal style. After graduating he moved to London where he completed a B.A. in Fine Arts. In 1989 he returned to the North and opened "ArtHaus" his Richmond gallery and began to paint and draw full time. Although his work can be seen in hundreds of galleries throughout the world, ArtHaus remains his base.

ArtHaus is a modern shop/gallery. A wide range of original works, limited edition prints, posters and greeting cards are typically on display. Frequently the gallery plays host to the work of other artists.

MacKenzies studio is located upstairs and occasionally his latest work is on view.
