Northern Tanzania is a safari
for the outdoors person who wants to get off the classic safari route
and appreciate the beauty of landscape and wildlife as well as cultural
interaction with different tribes in this area.
Walking the eastern Manyara
lakeshore, the Salei plains, down the Rift Valley escarpment and up an
active volcano makes this safari a complete African experience. The trek
up Lengai is quite strenuous, but an alternative walk to some spectacular
waterfalls can be arranged for those not wanting to attempt it.
Day 1 - NAIROBI or ARUSHA/TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK.
You will cross the border into Tanzania and continue onto Tarangire National
Park. Overnight Camping.
Day 2 - TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Entire day game viewing in this picturesque park dotted with curious baobab
trees. Overnight Camping.
Day 3 - TREK LAKE MANYARA
Walk through palm & acacia forest to join the lakeshore of Manyara against
the dramatic backdrop of the Rift Valley escarpment. Watch local fishermen
hauling in their catch from dug out canoes & taste the fish being grilled
at the small lakeside restaurants. Encounter with Mangati tribes people
grazing their cattle in this area. Overnight Camping.
Day 4 - TREK LAKE MANYARA
Morning walk along the lake shore observing the birdlife on the lake.
Walk up the escarpment with spectacular views over the lake before joining
our vehicles & setting our camp in the highlands over Manyara. Overnight
Camping.
Day 5 - MBULU / NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS
Drive through the highlands of Mbulu where the Iraqw people of Ethiopian
origin have settled in this fertile land & where fields and thatched huts
dot the hilly landscape. Late afternoon we reach the highlands of Ngorongoro
at Karatu, a rich area renowned for it's coffee plantations established
during the colonial years. Night spent in lodge on the edge of the coffee
plantations.
Day 6 - NGORONGORO CRATER
Entire day spent in the famous crater game viewing. Overnight in a Lodge
Day 7 - OLDUVAI GORGE/SERENGETI PLAINS
Morning game drive in the crater. We visit the gorge where Dr Leakey discovered
humanoid fossils, before entering the Serengeti ecosystem with endless
plains of game. Overnight Camping.
Day 8 - TREK GOL MOUNTAINS
Walking down the Sanjan Canyon we meet with traditional Masai people.
Communication is easy through our Masai guides. Game is plentiful, especially
after the rains, and walking this endless landscape is a memorable experience.

Day 9 - TREK RIFT VALLEY
Walking down the Rift Valley escarpment we enter an inferno of heat, sun
and sharp lava rocks, but the views over Lake Natron are magnificent.
Afternoon stroll along the shores of Natron observing the thousands of
flamingos searching for food in this soda lake.Overnight Camping.
Day 10 - TREK LENGAI VOLCANO
1am is time to start our climb. We reach the summit in time to watch the
sun rise on Kilimanjaro 200 km away. Inside the crater we witness small
cones spurting lava. It is a powerful magical place sacred to the Masai.
In the afternoon, back in our vehicles, we cross the Rift Valley towards
Longido. Overnight Camping.
Day 11 - NAIROBI. On a little used track we reach Namanga
before entering Kenya.

Safari Includes:
Transport in 4WD Landcruiser or Landrover with roof hatches for game viewing.
National park entry & camping fees.
Experienced local guide for the entire safari & Masai guides for the trek
Full board except meals in Nairobi or Arusha, Treated drinking water
All camping equipment including tables, chairs, cutlery & crockery, igloo-type
tents, mattresses, wash bowls, bush toilet, safari shower (water permitting).
Cook & drivers who assist with the camp
First aid kit is available for use by group participants
Safari Excludes:
International Flights to and from Africa, Entry Visas for Kenya and Tanzania.
Alcoholic drinks - we suggest that you bring a bottle of spirits to share
for the evening sundowners. Sleeping bag, torch light & personal toiletries.
