OTHER COMMITMENTS:

ANNAN HOSPITAL/DOMUS. We look after patients in both Annan Hospital and Treistaigh, the elderly mentally ill unit.

SOCIAL WORK CASE CONFERENCES & PANELS. We are invited to attend but are unable to get to many. We do have a close working relationship with the Social Work Department.

DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY ROAD ACCIDENT SCHEME. We have regular interruptions to our practice work to attend road accidents and '999' calls.

POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION & TRAINING. Our practice usually has an attached doctor doing his or her registrar year. Though called registrars, these doctors have had wide experience of hospital medicine. We are pleased to have them. We may have long experience of general practice, but they keep us up to date with modern ideas. Dr Kelly is the trainer doctor in the practice and that involves tutorials and teaching sessions as well as video work and meetings in Dumfries.  We also have students from Aberdeen and Glasgow visiting from time to time.  We also have Pre-registration House Officers attached to the Practice. They are supervised by Dr Kerr.

INDUSTRIAL APPOINTMENTS. Dr Ross attends Chapelcross on a Tuesday and Dr Maggiori attends on a Thursday. They also do sessions at Pinneys of Scotland and Ross Young Seafoods

MEDICAL COMMITTEES - Most practices have to take a turn on Medical Committees and we send representatives to the GP Sub-committee and various off-shoot sub-committees. Some of these meetings are during normal working hours and some are in the evening. This work is essential to liaise with the local Health Board and the new Primary Care Trust of which we are now part.   Dr Kelly is the lead clinician in the Annandale and Eskdale Local Healthcare Co-operative.  This group leads development of General Practice and Primary Care in Annandale and Eskdale.

MEDICAL NURSING AMBULANCE FUND - this
fund made sure that this area was in the forefront of the use of nebulisers and defibrillators in general practice. It provides equipment for both practices and for use of local nurses, physiotherapy and ambulance staff. We are grateful for the support that we get and we are pleased to be able to support the Community with top class medical equipment as a result.  If you wish more information about this worthy cause contact Jackie Wortley at the Surgery.
