What is an au pair?

Au Pair comes from the French phrase meaning " on equal terms." It is a cultural arrangement whereby

• you may come to the United Kingdom to improve your English
  
• live for up to 2 years as a member of an English speaking family with appropriate time off for study
  
• help in the home usually for 5 hours per day MONDAY-FRIDAY plus two evenings babysitting per week
  
• you will have a room of your own
  
• all meals
  
• £35.00 per week plus your language classes paid for if you are from a non EU country for 25 hours
  
• £50 - £80 per week if you are from an EU country for 25-40 hours
  
• £120 per week for a parent's help from an EU country working 40 hours (must be interviewed
  
• £180+ per week for a nanny from an EU country working 50 hours (must be interviewed
  
• all posts include babysitting twice a week
  
• you may work longer hours for more pocket money as an Au Pair Plus if you are from a EU member country

To be an Au Pair for us you must be

• a single person without dependants
  
• aged 18 to 26
  
• able to stay at least 3 months
  
• someone who enjoys being with children
  
• dependable, trustworthy and willing to work hard
  
• able to do light housework
  
• independent and sociable
  
• interested in the English language and culture
  
• a national of one of the participating countries

We will help you enjoy your stay by

• placing you with the best family to suit your skills and requirements
  
• inviting you to our coffee mornings
  
• giving you a free welcome pack with essential information about things to do and see in your area
  
• introducing you to other au pairs
  
• helping you to plan visits to places of interest around Great Britain
  
• helping to arrange language classes
  
• keeping in contact with you during the first four weeks
