Wattisham Local Area
Wattisham ATZ, and MATZ Wattisham ATZ is 2.5nm radius from the datum up to 2000ft agl. It is active H24. The MATZ is 5nm radius from the datum up to 3000ft agl. There are two stubs to the MATZ on the track of the runway, extending 8nm from the centre of each runway, 2nm either side of the centre line, between 1000ft and 3000ft agl. Wattisham Traffic Patterns There are variable circuits at Wattisham. Visual cicuits are usually at 1000ft , but weather may dictate lower heights. The instrument circuit is at 1500ft to the south of the airfield. From runway 23, climb on runway track to 1500ft, turn left onto heading 070°. From runway 05, climb on runway track to 1500ft, turn right heading 210°. Visual arrivals and departures from Wattisham are usually via the Chimney, Lavenham or Woolpit and Raydon VRPs at 1000ft QFE, depending on the route to be flown. Notify your requested heading and level for IFR departure or non-standard departures when you book out. Night Flying Night flying takes place at Wattisham most nights Monday to Thursday, and occasionaly at weekends. Runway and approach lighting are often blacked out. Similarly, multiple aircraft formations operate with minimal nav lights. Elmsett Traffic Patterns Agreed Practice: Aircraft inbound to Elmsett should contact Wattisham Approach on 125.8MHz. Non-Radio aircraft are not accepted. Arrivals for runway 23 are to be from the Copdock junction of the A12 and A14 roads, at 800ft QFE. Arrivals for runway 05 are via the disused airfield at Raydon, at 800ft QFE. Pilots should keep the SSR code allocated by Wattisham Approach until after landing, unless instructed otherwise. If Elmsett Radio is unmanned, pilots departing Elmsett, should either contact Wattisham ATC on 01449 728234, with departure details, or call Wattisham Approach on 125.8Mhz before take off. The circuit hight is 800ft, Left hand for runway 23, Right hand for 05. Departures from runway 23 route via Raydon disused airfield, not above 800 ft QFE until cleared by Wattisham Approach. Depatures from runway 05 route via Copdock road junction, not above 800ft QFE until cleared by Wattisham Approach. There is a 'No Fly Zone' between Ground Level and 800ft ( H24 ) to the North of Elmsett, acting as a buffer between Elmsett and Wattisham traffic patterns. Aircraft in the Wattisham instrument pattern overfly this zone at 1500ft on Wattisham QFE. Aircraft departing visually from Wattisham runway 23, to Chimney VRP, will route to the North of the 'No Fly Zone' at 1000ft QFE. Aircraft arriving visually from Chimney VRP, to runway 05 at Wattisham, will route North of the 'No Fy Zone' at 1000ft QFE. Aircraft departing Wattisham via Raydon will overfly Elmsett at 1000ft QFE Avoid overflying Hadleigh and other local villages.
