Jean Barry Soap Company News

July 2008

We have both good and bad news.

The bad new is we have lost Sandy, this is due to her mother being very poorly.

Sandy started with me shortly after I started the jb Soap Company and will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best for the future and hope her mother has a full recovery.

The good news is Lesley has joined us in a permanent position.

Lesley originally comes from Derby, but has lived in Penzance for the last 12yrs. She has a Diploma in fashion and textiles and worked as a designer before coming to Cornwall. A craft addict is a good way to descript Lesley as when she is not working in the shop she loves to spend her time painting, sewing, knitting and making cards. I would say Lesley is the best and fastest wrapper we have ever had.

The shop is moving!

Our lease is now up for renewal and we have decided to move to the shop next door, new shop, new beginnings. So if you are in Penzance please come and see the new premises.

Finally last year I had my second grandchild, a boy named Henry and last week Henry started to walk, not yet a year old! As I only had daughters this is a whole new experience, and I am sure I will enjoy every moment.

December 2007

Christmas at Causwayhead

It was an exciting run up to Christmas at Causwayhead. On December 1st the street was alive with street entertainment, shoppers enjoyed the seasonal food stalls, the carousel ride as well as Santa's Grotto. BBC Radio Cornwall's David White switched on the lights, as night fell.

Family entertainment continued during the 'late night shopping' Thursdays, throughout December. Part of the money taken at Santa's Grotto went to a local charity Penzance Natural Health Centre Childrens’ Bursary Fund.

Christmas decorations in the shop windows were provided by local primary school children as part of a competition entitled 'The Spirit of Christmas'. The standard of the displays was very high and the three judges, which included Penzance Mayor Cllr Frank Granger, made there decision based on the individual contribution of each child and its decorative impact. Connor Downs School's work was displayed at the Soap Shop and we are pleased to announce that they came 3rd! Prizes were awarded on Thursday evening, December 13th.
