One-Day Conference Friday, 24th March 2000: Manchester Business School
The Scope of the Conference Whilst learning has taken a centre stage position in many recent discussions about organisational and individual development, scant regard has been given to the wealth of relevant feminist theorising and the centrality of critical issues of race, class, sexuality and disability. Reflecting on our own experiences as members of organisations, and as educators, the conference seeks to develop a debate that questions our current understandings of learning and knowledge in the workplace. It will do this by exploring the contribution gender perspectives can make towards an understanding of the nature of power, controls and interests in the definitions of learning in the workplace and other contexts. Issues of identity, practice and survival for management educators, in a context which encourages the increasing commercialisation of education, are also central to the debate that this conference seeks to foster. The Proposed Conference Themes
Format of the Conference The conference will centre on debate and participation rather than the classic formal style of presentation. Colleagues are invited to bring posters, papers, handouts and other materials relevant to the theme for exchange. To support this integrative format places will be limited to 40 participants. It is therefore imperative to complete and send the attached registration form as soon as possible. The interactive format of the symposium will be supported by a panel of provocateurs who will make short sharp statements and who will help spark the debate. Keynote speakers and provocateurs include:
