The successful grading was completed after several years of diligent study culminating in two hours intensive training at an Examination Centre in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, followed by a formal examination.
Serena and Robin are multi skilled martial artists with similar grades also held in Judo, both having attended the Eurokwai Club since the age of seven.
Come April, the Eurokwai Martial Arts Judo and Karate Club, will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary, and what better way to start the celebrations than with a double success at a National Black Belt grading examination.
Lucky Karate students, Robin Simpson and Serena Lee, both eighteen, from the Eurokwai Martial Arts Club in Virginia Water, performed in an exemplary manner to become 1st Dan Black Belts, awarded by the Japan Karate Association.
A unique Karate success was achieved by 14 year old Luke Skinner. Representing the Virginia Water based Eurokwai Karate Club, Luke entered the Japan Karate Association England Championships and became National Champion in both Kata (set forms) and Kumite (sparring). Competing against hundreds of contestants from all over the Country, he won his two gold medals at Slough Montem Leisure Centre on the 20 November 2005.
Luke, who is a purple belt Karateka and a brown belt in Judo has attended weekly martial arts classes for seven years at the long established Eurokwai Club.

On Saturday 14 April 2007, Luke Skinner became the latest Eurokwai junior member to achieve his Karate 1st dan black belt.
His grading was preceded by a full and hard day’s training at the headquarters of Shikon and Martial Arts Standards Agency in Rochester, Kent. Immediately following the course Chief Examiner Steve Rowe, 7th dan, rigorously examined Luke’s technical abilities, as he demonstrated many complex basic techniques, three Katas, basic three step pairs, semi-free sparring, two bouts of free style sparring, concluding with a fourth Kata : The worthy result being that Luke was successfully graded 1st dan.

Virginia Water Instructor, Gary Murray, has been awarded the Ju-Jutsu Master's Rank of 5th Dan Black Belt in recognition of his ability and contribution to Martial Arts for over 30 years. He is the Chief Instructor of Eurokwai Judo Club based at Egham Leisure Centre, also the Virginia Water Karate Ju-Jutsu Club.

Mr. Murray has studied under numerous world renowned Judo Masters including Katsuyoshi Takata, Sensei Yamamoto, and former All Korean Champion Han-Ho-San. Karate Masters who have contributed to his development include, Sensei Harada, Bio-Energy expert Professor Aoki, also Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki. At one stage in his career Mr. Murray was honoured to study with Ju-Jutsu expert Professor Hironori Ohtsuka, the founder of Wado Ryu Karate. For many years he also studied under Professor P Sekine, 8th dan Kodokan, Tokyo.
Ju-Jutsu is an ancient fighting system created by Japanese Samurai Warriors. The art combines all Judo and Karate techniques, plus unique special "tricks" of its own that can be used as self-defence. Mr Murray does not subscribe to Martial Arts as sports, he prefers to focus on the defensive and character building aspects that can be safely practised by children and adults. Eurokwai Martial Arts is a friendly, family run club, which has been providing expert tuition for over 30 years, and where children aged from 7 years and adults of all ages are welcome.

Another black belt success has been achieved by the Eurokwai Shotokan Karate club, in Virginia Water. Sixteen year old Ben Lee travelled to Bath on Sunday 16 July 2006, where, after an exhausting training session in sweltering heat, he undertook one of the toughest tests set by the Japan Karate Association.
After an intensive examination of basic techniques, Kata (forms), and Kumite (sparring), Ben was promoted to 1st Dan black belt. Ben was one of 18 successful candidates out of 48 taking the test.
