| about crewwho we areCREW (Clyde Region Environmental Workers) is a group of volunteers, based in Glasgow, formed in 1977, to carry out practical conservation work for the benefit of people and wildlife. CREW is affiliated to the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) the national body involved in practical conservation throughout the United Kingdom. practical work every 2nd SundayWe pick up volunteers at Queen Street Station and Botanic Gardens on Sunday morning, returning late afternoon. it all happens around GlasgowTasks can anywhere around the Glasgow area and as far away as Loch Lomond. type of workProjects include treeplanting, fencing, footpaths, pondwork and other related conservation work. Already volunteers have planted thousands of trees at sites around Glasgow. These trees are now becoming established. They provide shelter and food for many species of wildlife. Local people enjoy walking in the beautiful countryside near to Glasgow. CREW helps improve access to these areas by building and maintaining footpaths that blend with the landscape. no experience neededNo experience is necessary as full training is given by one of our experienced leaders. what you need to bringJust boots or wellies, waterproofs and a
packed lunch, and lots of enthusiasm. it's all about making new friends, learning new skills, and enjoying the countrysideCREW is very much aware of the need to make conservation an enjoyable experience through learning new skills and making friends. It is hoped, that, at the end of the day, you will feel that your contribution has made the environment a better place. Over recent years, public awareness of the threats to our environment worldwide has grown increasingly. Some people are now pressurising their governments for change. Others like CREW, are getting together and taking direct action to improve our environment. |
